Having written a Toccata and Fugue in E-flat Minor, and having gotten it premiered, I decided to write more of them, even setting a goal of writing one in every major and minor key. Although that goal was never realized, I did succeed in writing a few more including this one in F Minor. Begun in May of 1997, it was also set aside and not completed until 2006. By then, I'd gotten to know organist and a colleague record dealer, Michael Gartz, and so dedicated the piece to him.
