This anthem was written for Philip Moyer and the Clearnote Church Bloomington (now Trinity Reformed Church) choir, but was found to be too difficult for use in worship by the ensemble at the composer’s church. The text was adapted from a number of different translations of the Psalm, one of the composer's favorites.
