Growing up in the famous Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, I frequently sang along with the congregation there the hymn tune by Ralph Vaughan Williams, In Nomine, which we sang as a hymn known as "For All the Saints." It quickly became my favorite hymn, and remained so even after I movement from Ft. Lauderdale to Blooming, Indiana in 1974 to pursue graduate studies in composition at Indiana University. While I was a student there, my father began a brass choir at Coral Ridge, and I made this quite free setting of the hymn for his choir. It was performed on one occasion there, but I was not able to attend, and now have no knowledge of exactly when that took place. The official premiere took place at a festival of my music given at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond in 2001.
