Part of the requirements for a Doctorate in Music Degree at Indiana University was to write two works in a specified duration of time with the instrumentation given by one's major professor. In my case, John Eaton assigned me to set part of the text from his opera Danton and Robespierre (libretto by Patrick Creagh), specifying it to be set for soprano, flute, and harpsichord. I had 24 hours in which to write the work, and this is the work that resulted from that assignment. It has never been performed, although it served its purpose in helping me acquire the desired DM.
