Duo Concertante was written for violinist, Carolyn Toll and her sister, trumpeter Yvonne Toll in the Spring of 1984, during a period where I was not writing much, nor feeling very confident about what I was writing. Consequently, as far as is known, the work was never performed by its dedicatees. Carolyn joined the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra shortly after this work was completed, and I have had no contact with either of the sisters since then.
