At the beginning of 2014, I was contacted by my friend, composer Julian Yu, a Chinese composer living in Melbourne, Australia, to ascertain my interest in contributing to a project he was working on. This involved a host of composers from numerous countries each contributing a variation on the children's song, known in English as "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star." In my variation, I attempted to bring some humor into the midst of the virtuosity I wrote into it, attempting to disguise the simple tune to a certain degree amidst all the notes. Knowing of the wide number of nationalities involved in the project, I also sought to "Americanize" the piece through some subtle use of ragtime rhythms. This is the briefest work in my official canon, and is dedicate to Julian Yu. It is itself my most international work in the sense that it has been published in China, and recorded in Australia and the USA.
